A Virtual Classroom

Hello again!

My goodness I have been M.I.A. for months. I don't know about you, but I have been busy, busy, busy!! So many things have changed in the world, especially the education world. Whether we like it or not, school looks different this year; some of us might be starting in-person while others are focusing on remote learning only. Thankfully, educators are naturals when it comes to thinking outside of the box. We also excel at supporting and uplifting one another. No mater what the year looks like, we will get through it!

I'm sure you've seen multiple posts online about the "Bitmoji Classroom." Today I'm here to tell you why you need one and how to create one! Plus, the end of this post has a virtual classroom template *freebie*. Let's jump in!

Why

I'll be honest, the first time I saw a Bitmoji classroom on Pinterest I didn't understand the purpose. Don't get me wrong, I thought they were adorable but I wasn't sure why people were spending time making one. Now that I've done some research of my own I can honestly say that a Bitmoji classroom is not only adorable, but also super functional. Here's why you need to dive in and create one:

Functional

Let me expand on the functionality portion of a Bitmoji classroom. You can link any online resource to your virtual classroom. If you want students to be able to access an online textbook, you can easily do so. In my Bitmoji classroom, I have a picture of my student's second grade math book. When students click the book, it automatically opens their online textbook in a new tab. You can even link Google Slides presentations to "items" in your classroom! Under my virtual whiteboard, I've posted two pictures of me with my husband and dog. When students click these pictures, it will take them to a fun Google Slides presentation about me! It's a fun way for students to get to know me even during remote learning.

Simple

When I first began my journey in creating a virtual classroom, I had no idea where to start. The task seemed overwhelming and confusing. Before looking up a Youtube tutorial, I ended up just playing around with Google Slides. After a while I got the hang of the basics, such as how to import a "transparent" image, link sites to items, and inserting my Bitmoji. Youtube and Pinterest were great supplements to help me create a virtual classroom that worked for me. It's also very simple to post to your Google Classroom feed! My second grade teaching partner and I believe posting our Bitmoji classrooms to Google Classroom could be easier than posting a daily assignment run-down and explanation of today's to-do list. If you've ever posted to Google Classroom, you know how easy it is to post a Google Slide presentation!

Creative

There are endless possibilities when it comes to creating your virtual classroom. You can make multiple classrooms for each subject! In second grade, we currently have a classroom for reading and one for math. It's so fun to make and explore! Creating a Bitmoji classroom will up your remote learning game this year!

How

*The following link is a video of the steps I took while using Google Chrome. However, there are many other ways to create a Bitmoji classroom!*

I really thought about putting it into writing, but then realized it would be so much easier if I just made a quick video on how to make a Bitmoji Classroom! Enjoy making your own Virtual Classroom and click below to download my virtual classroom templates!
